Chapter 25 Good News
Hearing the beautiful sound of VBB from the speaker, Lin Hong showed a smile on his face. He picked up the voice caller and pressed the call switch: "BG1VBB, I'm BG7XZZ, your signal 59, very clear. OVER."
When connecting or testing equipment such as radios and antennas, the ham clan usually requires the other party to burst out parameters such as signal strength and voice clarity. This parameter is called "signal report".
Common "signal reports" include the callability and signal strength of the voice.
The recognizability R of the voice is clarity. Whether the reaction can be heard clearly or not is divided into five levels from low to high. Level 1 is the lowest and completely unrecognizable. Level 5 is the highest, indicating that it is very clear and there is no noise. If there is noise, it should be less than 4 or 4.
The signal strength S is divided into nine levels, and level 1 is also the lowest level, indicating that the signal is extremely weak, while level 9 means that it is very strong without any interference.
Usually, when you report, you directly use numerical abbreviations such as "11", "58" and "59". 11" indicates that the signal is very poor and can't be connected at all. "59" is the best signal state.
"XZZ, you are finally ONAIR. I've been waiting for you for a long time~OVER."
From the tone, you can hear that VBB is very happy.
Lin Hong: "Sorry, I had something to do just now, so I didn't go online...OVER."
Compared with other "hams" who often say ONAIR, Lin Hong prefers to call it online. Unless it is connected with other "national" hams, Lin Hong will generally use the corresponding English.
"It doesn't matter, it's just that I'm a little early today...OVER."
Lin Hong: "You seem to be in a good mood. Is there anything to be happy about...OVER."
"Yes, you have found out that there is great good news that I have successfully obtained my own amateur radio license! Hee hee... Celebrate me! I don't have to use my brother's radio and call sign anymore~OVER.
Lin Hong was slightly stunned: "Really? On behalf of all the hams, I am sending you a congratulatory message! Welcome to officially become a member of the ham!"
Lin Hong was moved. He guessed the age of VBB. According to national regulations, the minimum age to obtain an amateur radio license is 16 years old.
"It seems that she should be about four years older than me."
Lin Hong is twelve years old this year and has not yet reached the legal age for formal application for a license. In recent years, the license he has used has always been Lao Xu's.
"My new call sign name is BG1QBB, remember~~"
Lin Hong: "Oreed, I remember. I will use this call sign to connect with you in the future. Congratulations again! BG1QBB...OVER.”
"What about you? When will you apply for your own call sign? Xiaoyan, don't think that your current voice has become an uncle-level, and you can pretend to be an adult. Your call sign is also your adult's. Don't forget that I took you to get started~~OVER."
Uncle level... Lin Hong has a black line.
In order to be able to smoothly connect with other hams without causing necessary trouble, Lin Hong made a small device and modulatored his own audio. The original child's voice was tuned into a heavy tenor, so that when others communicated with him, they would not refuse to talk to him because of his voice.
Lin Hong thought for a moment and said, "This is the call sign that my grandfather applied for me. I have been using it all the time. I don't want to change the call sign again. QBB, I also have good news for you...OVER."
"Have you been using this call sign all the time? It's okay... If you have any good news to tell me, it's still a matter of control, hum! ......OVER.”
Lin Hong: "My call sign has also changed. Please call me BD7XZZ in the future. I hereby inform...OVER."
"Wow! You have been promoted again! Are you already a second-level operator...OVER."
Lin Hong: "Yes, I have received the certificate from the Amateur Radio Association this morning. Congratulations to me! OVER."
Speaking of this, Lin Hong also smiled. Sharing their good news with the little teacher has always been an indispensable chat between them. Over time, they gradually have the meaning of showing each other, and often take the initiative to ask each other for congratulations.
With Lin Hong's character, in real life, he will never talk to others like this, and only on the radio will he make fun of each other like this with this little teacher.
Amateur radio enthusiasts are also graded. In China, it is divided into four levels. The fourth level is the lowest and the first level is the highest. Each level has different permissions, and the allowed radio power size and frequency range are also different.
After Lin Hong sent this letter, the other party did not reply for a long time.
When Lin Hong was surprised, QBB's voice sounded again:
"You are really a little pervert~~ You are already a second-level operator so soon! Oh, my God, in just three years, you have been upgraded from level 4 to level 2... I can't use any words to describe my mood at this moment, only envy...jealousy!"
"..." Lin Hong said he was speechless.
"XZZ, now that I have my own call sign, I order you to mail me a QSL card immediately... Otherwise... Otherwise, I will ignore you again... It hurts my self-esteem... OVER."
QSL card is a connection card for amateur radio enthusiasts, that is, two hams that have been connected. They mail each other a card similar to the size of a star piece to each other to confirm that the two sides have been connected, and it can also be used as evidence that they have been connected to each other. Collecting QSL cards of hams from all over the world is one of the important interests of many hams.
Because these cards are usually designed and made by the hams themselves, the patterns on the cards can reflect the local customs or their own related photos, but some content must be included.
For example, in China, three items must be included. First of all, the emblem of the China Radio Sports Association, and secondly, the CQ partition where the ham is located and the ITU partition, both of which are used to indicate the geographical location of the ham. In addition, the English translation of "AmateurRadioStationofP.R.China" of "Amateur Radio Station of the People's Republic of China" must also be included.
Only with the above three items can it be regarded as a legal QSL card recognized by the state. Of course, the card generally also includes the ham's own call sign, name, address, the other party's call sign, the date, time, frequency and method of establishing a connection between the two parties, etc. Even more detailed, some specific parameters of your own radio station will be attached.
In a word, the number of cards collected can reflect the qualifications of a ham from the side, and the country's ham level upgrade certification also needs to be based on the card. For example, level 4 is promoted to level 3, how many cards must be collected to be successfully promoted.
Lin Hong has already had his own QSL card, which he designed by himself and entrusted his master to a friend in the capital of Lingnan Province to a printing factory to print it. He printed 5,000 copies at a time.
In the past three years, Lin Hong has already collected more than 200 cards, and at least 70 or 80 of them are foreign. According to domestic regulations, as long as there are more than 50 foreign cards, you can apply for second-level certification. If it hadn't been for the income from repairing electrical appliances, Lin Hong would not have had so much money to mail these cards.
However, because QBB students did not have their own call sign before, they have not exchanged QSL cards between them so far.
Lin Hong hesitated for a moment: "Okay, give me the address...OVER."
After he said this, in a room in the courtyard near Zhongnanhai, Beijing, a girl with a ponytail jumped up from the seat excitedly and shouted happily:
"YES!"
